Artificial maturation and reproduction of European silver eel: Development of oocytes during final maturation

چکیده
Attempts on artificial maturation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla) have largely been unsuccessful. The moment of stimulation of final maturation and ovulation is mainly based on weight increase related to the hydration response of the oocytes, which, in the European eel, is irregular. In contrast to Japanese eel, European eels show wide individual variability and much slower response to hormonal stimulation. In this study, the oocyte development of wild European silver eels was followed during final maturation. We describe 7 developmental stages based on 6 parameters: transparency, position and visibility of the nucleus, diameter of the oocyte, and diameter and number of oil droplets. Together, these parameters describe unidirectional changes from immature to over-ripe eggs. The developmental status of the gonads can thus be determined from biopsies. Of 23 female eels, 14 ovulated and were stripped, and 9 gave eggs that could be fertilised. Oocytes mature asynchronously, but this seems to be an artefact since fertility dropped with every new generation. As the timing of ovulation is crucial for fertility of the eggs, our developmental index of oocytes may result in more successful maturation protocols. D 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Description of the ovarian follicle maturation of the migratory adult female bulatmai barbel (Luciobarbus capito,Güldenstädt 1772) in captivity
The study aimed to investigate the maturation process of ovarian follicles and ovary structure of migratory form of female Bulatmai barbel (Lucioarbus capito). The histology of oogenesis coincided with that known from most teleosts. The ovarian structure was found to be cytovarian. The development of the oocytes is started from early May along with spawning and the degeneration of matured oocyt...
متن کاملFollicular fluid the best medium of Maturation, fertilization and development of immature oocytes
Introduction: In vitro maturation and development of immature oocytes, as an artificial reproduction technique, is useful especially in women who are affected by cancer and polycystic ovary syndrome. Despite using many types of in vitro media, an appropriate environment has not been reported yet. Present study was designed to assess the effect of heated human follicular fluid (hHFF), which is s...
متن کاملEffects of cysteamine during in vitro maturation on viability and meiotic competence of vitrified buffalo oocytes
The aims of the present study were to assess the effects of cysteamine as an anti-oxidant on the rate of in vitro maturation (IVM) of buffalo oocytes (experiment 1), and their viability and nuclear status following vitrification (experiment 2). Immature oocytes with compact cumulus cells obtained from the ovaries of slaughtered animals were harvested and then cultured in the maturation medium w...
متن کاملO-11: Diverse Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on Oocyte Maturation and Development In vitro
Background: Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been shown to influence fertility and endocrinology of reproduction and metabolic activity in many species. In dairy cows, we and others have shown changes in steroid and metabolic hormones and prostaglandins leading to alteration of ovarian activity and uterine function. These can influence fertility by changes in folliculogenesis cyclicity ...
